An International Architecture, Interior Design and Planning firm based in Atlanta with offices in Atlanta and Shanghai seeks a talented and experienced Specifications Writer to manage the development of the firm’s technical resources and specifications for the improvement of project quality. In addition, implement the infusion of construction experience into firm protocols, information management, and the design documentation process. The position will be located in Atlanta. Project types include high-rise office, corporate office, retail, hospitality, mixed-use, education, government, public assembly, and interiors.
Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years’ experience focused in technical resources management and training with a background in general architecture / interior design practice.
Summary of Job Description
As the Specifications Writer, you will manage the development of the firm’s technical resources and specifications for the improvement of project quality. In addition, implement the infusion of construction experience into firm protocols, information management, and the design documentation process.
Specific responsibilities will include:
1.) Continuing Education/Training:
•Facilitation of the development of continuing education programs
•Reinforce firm protocols; design and decision making process
•Skill, professional enhancement
2.) Master Specifications:
•Development and training to enable
•Smooth integration of drawings and other documents with specifications
•Development of concise and complete construction documents
3.) Specifications Project Quality Review:
•Establish/implement protocol for review of specifications to improve clarity, accuracy, content, and conciseness of specifications
•Provide for systems to roll-up into pre-edit tvs specifications based on shared experiences
4.) Product Research/Reporting:
•Awareness of construction/product trends
•Projection of impact on delivery
•Communication of experience to practicing studios
•Advice/guidance to practice studios
•Research construction technology/ trends
5.) Archive Retrieval:
•Maintenance of project archives – physical systems standpoint
•Ability to retrieve/ follow and record retention
6.) Library Resources: Technical
a) Building, reimagining technical resources to serve practice needs
b) Coding of books, reference books, etc.
Summary of Qualifications
Experience: Architect with a minimum of 10 years commercial institutional project experience.
•Strong organizational skills
•Thorough knowledge of construction documents
•Extensive working knowledge of AIA MasterSpec guide specifications and CSI fundamentals as demonstrated by CSI-CCS certification
•Extensive knowledge of construction materials and systems
