Job Title: NuVuX Program Designer
Job Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
Job Description: Company Description

NuVu is reimagining K-12 education by building the school of the future. NuVu is a place where students and teachers explore ideas outside of disciplinary boundaries and immerse themselves in the innovation process. Under the guidance of designers and experts, middle and high school students solve problems through a critical, rigorous, and iterative process. Our pedagogy is rooted in the architectural design studio, but our team has expertise in industrial design, architecture, robotics, engineering, fashion, art, music, filmmaking, and graphic design; this diversity fosters the innovative environment that complements the passion and potential of young learners. Through multi-disciplinary projects, we help students navigate the messiness of the creative process through collaboration, iterative design, and critique.

Job Description

We are seeking a candidate with interests in design, technology and education to join NuVu in Cambridge as a part of our evolving NuVuX team. NuVuX is an initiative developed by NuVu to bring design, creativity, and innovation to schools and organizations around the world. Through NuVuX, we offer studio-based programs and consulting services for educators, schools, and professional organizations seeking to learn, enhance, or implement a practice of innovation and creativity. NuVuX consists of multiple components that are implemented at the school throughout the year, including: program and curriculum development, onsite experts (Fellows), in-house professional development, our Online Studio Management Platform (SMP), and space planning for fab labs, shops, and makerspaces.

NuVu’s partner schools in this initiative are part of the NuVuX Network, which currently includes twelve schools located around the world. The NuVuX Network of partner schools is rapidly growing, and the Program Designer will play a key role in helping to develop and manage customized studio programs at each school.

The NuVuX Program Designer will be responsible for assisting the NuVuX team in the implementation of design and innovation programs at schools within our NuVuX Network. Programs at NuVuX partner schools are managed day-to-day by NuVu Fellows who work at the schools as staff members. The Program Designer will interface with NuVu Fellows, partner school teachers and administrators, and the NuVu team to help effectively manage NuVuX programs. The Program Designer will also be required to travel periodically to NuVuX partner schools to support Fellows, teachers, and students. An ideal candidate is passionate about education and excited about expanding their own knowledge and creativity.

As the NuVuX Program Designer, your responsibilities will include:

•Assisting the NuVuX Program Director and the NuVuX team in day-to-day management of programs at partner schools, management and build out of the NuVuX Fellowship Program, development of shared resources for partner schools, and hiring of NuVuX Fellows.

•Supporting programs at NuVuX partner schools through regular contact with Fellows based at those schools and periodic travel to each partner school site.

•Aiding in the design and implementation of studios at partner schools on a wide range of topics.

•Giving critical feedback to students about their ideas and their prototypes while on site at partner schools.

•Coordinating virtual support for student projects at NuVuX partner schools.

Required qualifications:

•2-5 years work experience in a creative environment.

•A passion for working in education.

•Detail oriented and extremely organized.

•Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with a diverse group of people.

•Strong interpersonal skills.

•Strong writing skills.

•Must be an open minded, creative thinker.

Preferred qualifications:
•A strong understanding of the design and making process: brainstorming, ideating, and prototyping.
•Experience in program design and management.
•Teaching experience.

•Graphic communication abilities.

•Ability to think both conceptually and concretely about projects.

•Graduate or undergraduate degree in a design field (i.e. architecture, industrial design, graphic design) or equivalent experience.
