REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES:
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of: CAD TECHNICIAN
The Public Works Department, Construction Management Division, consists of a select group of architects, engineers, and construction professionals that direct the planning, design and construction process for new and large renovation projects for Broward County, excluding airport and port projects. The Construction Management Division is seeking a CAD TECHNICIAN who will support a talented team of project managers and professionals responsible for an array of challenging projects for Broward County. The ideal candidate will have experience in cutting-edge technologies used in the construction and design fields such as: 3D computer modeling including compound curves, topography, groups, 3D warehouse and IFC file format exchanges; rendering, animation, layouts, and exporting/importing using Sketchup/Autodesk Revit and/or other Open BIM software; experience in XREF bound or unbound, pen setting CTB files, text or dim styles, blocks, Design/Construction documents, model vs. paper space, scaling, express tools and presentation boards; CAD Standard – AIA layers using Autodesk AutoCAD software; knowledge of clash detection, attach operation & maintenance manuals, cut sheets and specifications using Autodesk Navisworks software; experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and in the review of consultant drawings in terms of BIM Level of Development (LOD), COBie Data format and BIM Standards using Autodesk Revit software; ability to calculate areas based on Building Owner's and Manager's Association (BOMA) standards; familiarity with Florida Building Codes and NFPA Life Safety Codes; CAD/BIM Filling structure and information technology. The ideal candidate will also maintain a working knowledge of common graphic and presentation software platforms such as Photoshop and PowerPoint and file formats including JPEG, PDF and EPS.
Specialized technical work involving systems implementation of computer-aided design and drafting (CADD).
Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one (1) year of college in architectural drafting, computer graphics, civil engineering, engineering field surveying, mathematics or planning or closely related field. Requires one (1) year experience in drafting work.
Special Certifications and Licenses: None.
•Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction, Design Technology, or closely related field.
•Building Information Modeling (BIM) certifications
•CAD for Design and Construction certificate
•Records Management certification
•COBie and/or Adobe certification
•Emergency Management certification
•At least two years of experience developing advanced graphical presentations and design plans for vertical construction projects.
•Advanced Software Skills including: BIM for architectural, structural, and MEP design; BIM collaboration software; Autocad, Google Sketchup, Adobe Photoshop, or any other software skills related to design presentation.
•At least two years providing advanced BIM technical designs and compiling detailed model documentation to support coordination of project among multiple parties and software platforms.
•At least one year of experience with web design and /or updating website content.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
•Prepares engineering drawings using AutoCAD for County survey development, maintaining drawings and CAD plot file library.
•Interacts with and provides support to various personnel within and outside the organization.
•Selects, develops and implements CAD systems.
•Creates and manages reference libraries and data bases.
•Creates scripting and automation code for graphics processing.
•Selects, develops and implements graphics processing systems.
•Redraws Section Maps.
•Creates drawings based on interpretation of legal description of various property boundaries.
•Creates and maintains computer generated project files for road right-of-way projects.
•Utilizes right-of-way reference material from Broward County Property Appraisers website. Assists public review of various road right-of-way maps, aerials and other reference material.
•Manipulates right-of-way reference material for drawing projects.
•Prints various right-of-way maps and document reference material for in-house use.
•Assists internal agencies regarding road right-of-way inquiries.
•Creates Parcel Sketches using CAD for rights-of-way being acquired or vacated by Broward County.
•Researches, extracts and calculates information pertaining to properties and buildings, related systems and infrastructures.
•Performs computer system administrator duties.
•Creates, modifies and updates drawing in various disciplines.
•Performs drawings scans.
•Serves as liaison with authorized software dealer towards purchase and update of hardware and software.
•Revises the Section Sheets by inserting newly-recorded rights-of-way parcels and/or vacations and correcting past drafting errors.
•Revises the deed files for corresponding Sections after receiving recorded copies of right-of-way documents.
•Converts Section Sheets from hand-drawn Mylar to electronic CAD files.
•Performs related work as assigned. May support reception desk during brief periods of absence by the receptionist.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
