Designer Barbara Lazaroff to Auction Art Collection

Julien's Auctions Fine and Decorative Art auction is featuring selected pieces from the collection of Barbara Lazaroff, Los Angeles designer and co-founder of Spago and numerous other renowned dining establishments. The event will take place in Beverly Hills on Thursday, June 26th.

The event will include items curated by Lazaroff and originally showcased as décor at her various restaurants, including Eureka, Chinois, ObaChine, Granita, a variety of Wolfgang Puck cafes, and Spago Beverly Hills. Items from Lazaroff’s personal art collection will also be included.

Barbara Lazaroff is an award winning restaurateur and interior designer. She collaborated with her partner Wolfgang Puck to create and design a number of restaurants, including the famous Spago in Hollywood, which became known for its exhibition kitchen and A-list parties. She is well known within the entertainment industry and is a generous supporter of a variety of charities.

Masterpieces of modern art, including a gelatin silver print of “Sie Kommen” signed and dated by Helmut Newton, is among the variety of art offerings. This unusually large print was purchased by Lazaroff directly from the artist and was showcased in her redesigned layout of the Playboy Club in Tokyo. Also up for bid will be a rare printers proof of Jim Dine’s, “The Oil of Gladness,” and a mixed-media print with decoupage accents by American great James Rosenquist, “Time Door.”

Other sought after works by eminent artists like Helen Frankenthaler, Jim Lutes, Dale Chihuly, Robert Motherwell, and Andy Warhol are among the pieces to be offered. Other auction highlights include an assortment of antique beer and liquor posters and a collection of ceramic vases custom designed by artist Mary Burns exclusively for Lazaroff’s designs of the Wolfgang Puck cafes and her home. A number of carved Buddhist sculptures, historic Thai narrative paintings, and select Asian art pieces and antiques personally acquired by Lazaroff during her many visits to Asia are also included. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of some of the items will be donated to the St. Vincent Meals on Wheels program.
