EuroVegas Development Planned for Madrid

The developers behind the popular Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore have announced plans to build a ‘EuroVegas’ resort on the edge of Madrid. The development will include 12 hotels of 3,000 rooms each and 2,400 meeting rooms, which would make it the largest casino and conference facility of its kind in Europe. Financing for the £8.3bn complex has already been secured.

Spread over a 3 square mile site, EuroVegas will be constructed in phases with the first phase - comprised of four individual resorts - due of completion in 2017. Once completed, the development will include a 72-story hotel, 6 casinos, a convention center, 3 golf courses, theatres, shopping malls, bars and restaurants.

Local media has been abuzz with reports that EuroVegas may be exempt from national no-smoking policies. Madrid regional government Salvador Victoria is quoted as saying: “Smoking shouldn’t be an obstacle to such an important project.” It is thought that the introduction of smoking within the casinos would give an ‘authentic’ atmosphere to the development.
